Happy Highboy
I have always loved the presence that a highboy commands in a room and this piece had a beautiful presence. From the rope detail around the drawers to the exquisitely carved legs and beautifully ornate arms, this Highboy was stunning.
For $50 at a nearby garage sale I was able to bring this beauty home to begin a gentle transformation.
Not all pieces need a complete up cycle thus the description “gentle transformation”. So, I lovingly used my DIY paint in Boho Blue for the body and Cherry Picked for the mirror and feet, while preserving the beautiful wood on the drawers and arms.
I was also thrilled to have all the hardware still attached.
I often close my eyes and try to imagine the life that a piece had before I find it. Like human lives some pieces were well cared for, and some were not, but all are worthy of becoming the best piece they can be.
That is where creators like me come in. And while the debate continues on about whether to paint or not to paint, anytime I can make a piece pretty enough to catch someone's eye all the while saving it from the landfill, that is always a good thing.
